BARCELONA, Spain — James Harden and the U.S. sprinted into the championship game of the Basketball World Cup, riding a huge third quarter to a 96-68 victory over Lithuania on Thursday night.

Harden scored all of his 16 points in the lopsided third quarter of a near carbon copy of the Americans' quarterfinal victory over Slovenia, when he awoke from a scoreless first half to help turn a close game into a blowout in a split second. MADRID (AP) — France upset Spain 65-52 in front of its stunned fans in the quarterfinals of the Basketball World Cup on Wednesday.

After dominating its first six games and blowing out France by 24 points in the group phase, Spain appeared to be the main candidate to dethrone the United States in a possible final that would have been a rematch of the past two Olympic gold-medal games.

BARCELONA, Spain—Lithuania will have another chance to upset the United States after the two teams set up a semifinal rematch at the Basketball World Cup.

Renaldas Seibutis scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter and Lithuania outshot Turkey from behind the 3-point line to win their quarterfinal 73-61 on Tuesday.

Spain, Greece move to 3-0, Senegal upsets Croatia

Spain and Greece are headed to the round of 16, and Senegal is in position to join them after shaking up Group B with an upset Monday at the Basketball World Cup.

The Spanish earned a trip to their capital by routing Brazil in a battle of unbeatens to take the lead in Group A, while Greece clinched the first spot in Madrid by improving to 3-0 earlier in the day.

NBA playoffs in progress, can the Heat threepeat?

The NBA first round of the playoffs for the 2013-2014 season is ongoing and the match ups are quite tight in both the Eastern and Western Conference turfs except for the Miami Heat which swept the Charlotte Bobcats 4-0.

The second seed in the East, Heat can at least rest and reenergize for a week while waiting for its second round opponent which is either the third seed Toronto Raptors or the sixth seed Brooklyn Nets which are now tied 2-2 in their first round series. A bad season for the ailing Texans

After the Houston Texans eked out a 2-0 start, it was all disaster for the once amazing and promising football team. It suffered its worst franchise record of 14 straight losses and ended up fourth in the AFC South in a season-ending 2-14 win-loss card.

So frustrating was how the team performed that in week 14 and with a loss to the cellar dweller Jacksonville Jaguars, Texans team owner Bob Mcnair handed Head coach Gary Kubiak his pink slip. Mcnair named Defensive coach Wade Philipps as interim coach and later hired former Penn State head coach Bill O' Brien as the team's third head coach.

In the season opener, the Texans won against the San Diego Chargers, 31-28 in a come-from-behind fashion. Down 3 touchdowns (21-points) in the third quarter, the Texans sparked a 24-0 run in the closing minutes of the third quarter and the rest of the fourth quarter to finally win one against the Chargers. Saturday night was not as cold as it seems when Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao was devastatingly knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez with a perfectly executed crisp right straight at exactly 2:59th minute of the sixth round.

Pacquiao started chasing Marquez and landed good shots in rounds one and two until Marquez suddenly surprised Pacman in the third round with an overhand right power shot that knocked down the pound-for-pound king for the first time in the bout and in the previous 36 rounds that they had squared off so far.
